In a truly collaborative effort, that spanned several generations of students and various results obtained over the years in our group, Miljan has now managed to put it all together. Does the enzyme Acetylene Hydratase work via a redox mechanism after all? After a plethora of really tricky syntheses and painstaking mechanistic investigations, both experimentally and theoretically, we think yes! Miljan could show that by oxidizing the central metal from the +IV to the +V state, he can generate turnovers with acetylene to ultimately give acetaldehyde. These long and tedious investigations were now rewarded with a very nice JACS paper. Well done Miljan!
